Light Up and Lighten Up People

April is Autism Awareness Month.  Get aware.  Light up your house blue, wear blue, talk until you're blue.  Start a conversation about Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Raise awareness.

I'm the very proud Granny (though none of them call me that...I'm YiaYia - that's another story) to 5 brilliant and beautiful kiddos.  Every one of them is a stunner!  They knock me out and kick my hiney all the time.  Well, not literally knock me out, but you know what I mean.  They are smart, funny, sweet, beautiful, talented....you get the picture.  And in October we get another paquet précieux.  Abundant joy, more than I could have imagined, all of them bring to the Manor.  Right now we have 2 boys and 3 girls, so we really need another boy to make it even.  I'm talkin' to you Duke and Countess de Couv.
It turns out one of our boys is on the autism spectrum.  I daresay it's altered the family journey some, but it's opened our eyes wide to alternative learning and processing abilities.  I invite you to read a little about Sir Ell over at Moss and Clover.  You should go, really.

Sir Ell:  It's the weekend, so we should kiss wildly.
Me:  Okay, here they come, right at ya, Sir!  Smack smack.

  2. We have an adult child that has mild Autism... each day can be a new adventure! They seem to know more about it now than when he was a wee one... and have more to offer the Families, which is a good thing... but still a long way to go, especially in the area of Health Insurance Coverage for Autism... but that's a whole other story... raising children with special needs is something I've had a fair amount of experience at... since two adult children and now two G-kids we're raising have had issues. Well you know what they say... whatever doesn't kill you will only make you stronger! *winks* When The Man and I do the Math about how old we'll be when the last child is raised and hopefully moves out, it's somewhere close to our 80's, so we better get stronger! *LOL*
